Set sail on TUI Discovery 2

The newest addition to our fleet, TUI Discovery 2, made its debut last month, and is now off on its first sailing around the Med. Here’s what you need to know about the ship and why you should book your trip today…

TUI Discovery 2 is almost identical to its sister ship TUI Discovery, but with a few new exciting features. And because TUI Discovery managed to scoop a top award from the UK’s leading cruise reviewer, Cruise Critic, last year, we know you’ll be excited to book a trip on the newest and biggest addition to our fleet.

The ship set sail from Malaga last month, stopping off at the Mediterranean’s most iconic destinations including Barcelona, Valencia, Ibiza, and Marseille. And it will be based in Tenerife from September, visiting ports in the Canaries, Morocco and Madeira, on itineraries including Iberian Treasures, Continental Coasts and Canarian Flavours.

Here’s what’s new on TUI Discovery 2…

You’ll enjoy all inclusive drinks onboard

All-inclusive drinks will come as standard on TUI Discovery 2, so you’ll be able to enjoy the wide range of restaurants and bars onboard, and a selection of premium drinks included in the cost of your holiday. Prosecco and cider is included in the package, and you’ll find new self-service beer and wine taps in Islands buffet restaurant, too. You’ll be able to enjoy meals from five different restaurants, and there’s everything from gourmet cuisine to laid-back street food, keeping families, couples and fussy eaters happy.

The popular Surf & Turf and Kora La restaurants, which are also on TUI Discovery, feature a host of new dishes, including a rack of lamb and a vegetable filo wellington at Surf & Turf, and a duck and watermelon salad and pork belly dish at Kora La. You can read more about these restaurants here.

And we’ve also added handy mineral water dispensers to each deck near the cabins, making it easy for you to fill up your water bottles and stay hydrated all the time.

Activities are beyond the basic

Never mind iconic sights and white sand beaches – with all the activities onboard TUI Discovery 2, you’ll never want to leave the ship. There’s a poolside cinema screen, a rock-climbing wall, a mini-golf course, and an indoor swimming pool and spa to keep everyone busy. And TUI Discovery 2 also boasts an interactive virtual reality room.

In the evening, there are plenty of bars where you can enjoy a chilled sundowner, including a brand-new circular outdoor bar on deck 10. And, the Vegas-inspired evening entertainment lines up shows like ‘Chaplin’, ‘Steel City’, and ‘Legends Live’, plus there’s a casino with a brand-new roulette table where you can try your luck.

Keep your eyes peeled for the four penguin sculptures in different colours dotted around the ship. Remember to snap a seabird selfie and share it on our Thomson Cruises Facebook page.

Activities and excursions are easy to book

We’ve just launched a new app called Navigate to make it easy for you to book activities and excursions using your iPad or smartphone. You’ll be able to book before you depart on your trip, to secure the most popular activities, or decide what you want to get up to onboard.

Watch our video below to see how it works…

Using the app, you’ll be able to check your itinerary, restaurant menus, a map of the ship and geo-locate your cabin. If you want to take part in any activities, you can book restaurants, spa treatments and excursions using Navigate too.

As well as the app, there are 68 new digital screens around the ship, 36 of which are interactive, where you’ll be able to browse and make bookings too. The crew will also carry handheld devices when taking orders, and will be able to help you use the app.

And just to make things even easier, there are more WiFi spots on the ship than ever before, and each cabin has a handy bedside USB connection point to keep those devices charged.

Tips are included too

Unlike most other cruise lines, you don’t need to worry about tipping staff and service charges on Thomson Cruises, as they’re included in the price. This gives you peace of mind for when you’re budgeting for your holiday – you’ll be able to just relax and enjoy the unrivalled entertainment and food on board.

you can please yourself, there were both on board in June, if you want to make an effort there are also photographers about where some couples/groups had a photograph to remember taken, but if you don’t want to dress up you can always go to the buffet restaurant.

Hi I have 3 questions. 1) notice on YouTube people posting premium drink packages for the discovery 2, can I see what is included please to see if what we drink is already within inclusive .There isn’t any mention of premium drinks on the web site. 2) I notice you have an app to book excursions or dinner, where do we get the app and while on board is wifi free to use it on my ipad? 3) in YouTube clips of the junior suites the balcony has sun loungers and a table. In web site photo only shows table and chairs (although whole balcony isn’t shown) can I assume there are sun loungers for this up graded balcony room ?
    Thank you

Due to cruise on the TUI Discovery 2, in just three weeks. It’s our first cruise, & so many questions, my heads in a spin! lol Would be most grateful if anyone could help me with these few, regards the cabin?
SAFE – Quite simply, is usage free of charge. If not, what is the charge please?
MINI BAR / FRIDGE – I note no mention of a mini bar in the cabin description. Is there any possibility to arrange for a mini bar / fridge, at a charge?
ELECTRICITY – Firstly, any idea roughly how many power outlets are in the cabins (we like our electricals … should I pack an extension?) Secondly, is the electric powered by the cabin key card, or constantly available (can I charge my electricals whilst out of the room, if so wished?) &, lastly & most importantly, which plug adapters are needed?
Assistance with any or all the above greatly appreciated 

Safe is free. There is a mini bar in cabins items are charged for. On discovery 1 i think there were two electric points one European one US. When you take card out electric goes off. We used an old card when out to charge things.
